Waltham resident Josh Pierre, age 21, was arrested in Miramar, Florida on Friday, Sept. 22 in connection with the May 2023 murder of 22-year-old Waltham resident Shelson Jules, the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office announced on Wednesday, Oct. 4.

According to the DA's Office, on Monday, May 22 around 1:30 a.m., Pierre and other individuals went to Lyman Street in the area of Faneuil Road in Waltham in order to meet with Jules. After a short exchange, Pierre then allegedly fired numerous shots before running from the scene.

Two of these shots fatally struck Jules from behind, officials said.

Months later, in July 2023, authorities identified Pierre as the shooter and charged him in connection with the murder. However, Pierre took steps to avoid being apprehended before he was finally found in Miramar, according to officials.

Pierre is charged with murder and possession of a firearm. He is scheduled to be arraigned in court on Friday, Oct. 6.
